About our centre

At Kumon, our aim is for each and every child to become an independent, advanced learner, with a positive attitude to study.

The unique Kumon programmes pursue the potential of each child, developing their ability and nurturing their independence. Following a free assessment your child will begin on the programmes at an individually set starting point, laying a solid foundation for effective learning. Their progress through the programmes will be tailored to their individual needs, ensuring your child continues to grow and achieve.

As a Kumon student, your child will develop invaluable study skills and build in confidence as they become an independent learner. Through daily study of the unique Kumon worksheets, your child will strive towards studying above the international standard for their age, enabling them to realise their potential both at school and beyond. In addition to studying an appropriate amount of work at home on a daily basis, your child will also attend the study centre up to twice a week.

Kumon’s long-term focus provides children with the self-assurance to take their learning into their own hands, increasing their motivation to succeed.

Audrey Kelly

About your Instructor

Hello, my name is Audrey Kelly and I am the instructor at the Kumon Citywest Study Centre. I graduated from the National College of Ireland in Accounting and Human Resource Management in 1999, and retail banking marked my start in the world of work before moving to business banking. After 10 years in banking and finance I left to work in the family business. As a mum of three, watching my children transition from pre-school to primary school and then secondary school develped my interest in education. I am determined to ensure they and every Kumon student at the Citywest Study Centre reach their maximum potential.

Following an initial diagnostic test, parents are given an individual study projection to see the topics their child will study over the coming months. At Kumon students’ progress through the programme at exactly the right pace for them developing confidence and fluency in each topic before progressing. I am delighted to have this chance to work with children on their learning journey and see them develop in their maths and English abilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
